Bacchus, more commonly known by his Greek name Dionysus, is a figure who treads the fine line between chaos and ecstasy, a deity swathed in the paradoxes of the human condition. He is the god of wine, fertility, ritual madness, and religious ecstasy in ancient Greek religion and myth.

His origins are a testament to the complexity and fluidity of Greek mythology. Dionysus is sometimes described as a son of Zeus and the mortal Semele, making him the only god with a mortal parent, and thus a bridge between the divine and the mortal. Other tales suggest he is the son of Zeus and Persephone. His birth narrative is fraught with violence and deceit, reflecting the tumultuous nature of his domain.

Dionysus represents more than mere inebriation. In the Dionysian mysteries, his rites encapsulated a profound spiritual journey, leading his followers through ecstatic highs and terrifying lows, symbolising death and rebirth, a cycle akin to the patterns of nature and human life. His worship was marked by the dichotomy of joy and terror, reflecting his dual nature as a bringer of ecstasy and a harbinger of madness.

This representation is an older, modern Bacchus, talking about the cycle mentioned previously.
